If you're like me, when you hear the word depression it can mean many things. For some it means not getting out of bed, going to work, or taking showers while for others it means not being able to concentrate or dropping out socially. Whichever form it takes, the toll on the family and caregivers can have far reaching consequences. Obviously cinical depression is worse than a mild depression. If you have the desire to educate yourself on the subject below are some books i'd recommend.
1. Darkness Visible, by William Styron
2. On the Edge of Darkness: conversations about conquering depression by Kathy Cronkite
3. Growing up Sad; childhood depression and its treatment, by Leon Cyryn, M.D. and Donald McKnew, M.D.
Another outstanding resource is The Noonday Demon, An Atlas of Depression by Andrew Solomon.
